Successful kick-off to the 26th edition of the Hanse Sail Rostock. For the first time, all shark cutters managed to fully complete the racing route under sails.
“Phoenix” (Germany) came first after 3 hours and 2 minutes for the distance between Nysted and Warnemünde. The winner was followed by “Grönne Erna” (Denmark) with 3 hours and 1 minute and “Hansine” (Germany) with 3 hours and 13 minutes.
Facing wind speed of 5 beaufort, the ten small, nimble, wooden ships offered a true regatta feeling. Shortly after the start, Manfred Lehnert, manager of the convey “Elbe 1” announced: “I am optimistic about our Warnemünde arrival under sails”. The atmosphere among the 100 joint-sailers and its crews was fantastic. Polar explorer Arved Fuchs and his famous shark cutter “Dagmar Aaen” participated in the sail for the second time: “It was a great experience for us! The weather conditions met the needs of the ships: A lot of wind and sun!” The presentation ceremony of the 8th edition of the shark cutter regatta will be held today in the City Harbor on the stage “Alter Fritz” at around 18h.
